OctaneRender™ for Blender plugin. Windows x64 version.

Image

The bundle consists from two parts:
1. OctaneRender™ Server
2. Blender - OctaneRender™ edition.

The first part (server) should be run on the same computer as the second one. To stop the server - just right-click its icon in the tray.
After the server is run - you can start rendering (or open a rendered view) from inside Blender. Before the very first rendering you should fill in the server address (only 127.0.0.1 at the time), login and password (your license key info) to activate the server. After the first rendering the server will remember this activation info, and you will not need to enter it again.

You should use only OctaneRender materials inside Blender scenes - the plugin knows nothing about Blender specific materials and textures (about any Blender nodes, generally speaking).

FIXES AND NEW FEATURES SINCE LAST RELEASE

  • Material preview is improved.
  • Fixed crash in material preview.
  • "LiveDB material previews not appearing" bug fixed. Check please, if some of you will still have some problems with this...
  • Login-password disappear from input fields now only after successful sending to the server.
  • Improved system console and on-screen feedback messages from OctaneServer.
  • Minor improvements and bug fixes.

After starting OctaneServer it will take some time before the LiveDB tree and LiveDB material previews will be available from Blender - as OctaneServer caches the LiveDB data from remote server right after starting. But only the materials groups tree will be re-cached every time after server start, LiveDB material preview images will be cached only once - so only the very first OctaneServer start will need some more time before LiveDB tree will be available in Blender.

DOWNLOAD (both distributives must be reinstalled, they depend on each other)

Blender Octane Edition - 1.20.2 - 2.1 beta (2.68a) (51.8MB autoinstaller file)
Octane Server - 1.20.2 - 2.1 beta (32.3MB autoinstaller file)

Tested for one hour. It works very well.
Only thing missing is a system for the conversion of materials in blender -> materials octane. I wish that would transform the "nodes texture" of the materials in blender "nodes texture" octane. Then it would be perfect!
You have done an excellent job.
Thanks Jimstar ... If you switch from italy offer you a dinner! ;-)
Sorry for the bad English.
Hello, Simone

It works better.

Is it legal to use these materials and textures in commercial work?

Hi Jim. I confirm It's working fine now, and another thing to confirm is that no folders are being created neither in octane server's or the .blend's folder. Is that how it's supposed to work now?
One question, how do you apply materials from the DB? Do you drag and drop them onto the model? I'd like to test applying it on that multi-material car, to see if it gets applied only on the active material selected.

regards,
Alvaro

Just select the object and press the little button "Get item" in LiveDB.
I have intentionally made Drag & Drop not working, as to make it work all the standard Blender space editors should be changed to make them know about LiveDB. But it would be too much for just the plugin, as mantaining of feature Blender releases would cost too much resources for the plugin.
If Blender Foundation will like LiveDB space editor as universal feature (I intentionally made it universally working with different servers and later it will work with local database, and it's name does not contain "Octane" ) - they can include it in Blender trunk, and in this case all other space editors can be changed to catch Drops from LiveDB...

Dear JimStar,

thank you for an realy very fast update!
Everything is working fine now! GREAT! We love Octane ;).

For your info:
Just clicking the "Get Item"-button is not right. 1st we have to add a standard-material to an object.
If this is done "Get Item" will work- before nothing will happen ;).

And there is a request.
Could you give us a checkbox "automatic smooth on/off" for materials?
Because all materials are smooth, and when i use ie glass on a mesh i often have to disable smooth to have the right optic.
For me personal it would be better if smooth generaly is disabled.
I think its a material-setting and need to be overwritten by a script or so.
What does the other poeple say?

Another request:
If possible it would be great to see LIVE how UV-moving,sizing,rotating affects the 3d-render-view.
(In edit mode).
Now the view will be actualized whenn pressing TAB the 2nd time to exit edit mode.

Ahh and: You should try to sell the database to blender nation.
Blender needs a material-library. But in all that years it never came.
Here is JIM ... give him a few month and evoilá :D

regards,
Dennis

The problem is - the nodes are static template data inside Blender, and they have default values hardcoded inside the templates (which are registered during Blender startup)... It is how Blender works from inside at the time, and I'm trying to change the Blender generic internals as little as possible...
I've seen that Blender developers started the work on dynamic nodes, and I tried to use them first - but I was forced to return to static nodes, as so far dynamic nodes are absolutely unusable, as they do not let to implement all the features which Octane nodes need.
But I will think about what we can do with it...

Can you please explain it a little further?.. Perhaps some examples - how you want it should work?..;)
