Proxies and only copy rotate etc. seems OK, but if I try to change material or lighting after use of proxies > instant crash.
It's also impossible to use octane on that file anymore. Has happened to five files in a row. Attached the last one.

Hi Johlanga,

Thank you for the sample file. Much appreciated.

Scatter is in the process of being resolved for the next release. Internal improvements on the core renderer should assist with resolving the proxy issues alluded to.

Improving Geometry building scenes is an on-going process. We have focused on reducing the frequency of building updates, while gradually optimizing the overall build speed. There is still much room for improvement. We have improved the nodegraph navigation experience by improving the controls on the Scene sidebar. Reducing the clutter in the nodegraph itself is still a work in progress, as finer control of the internal Octane components is needed. This also applies to reducing the complexities of the automatically generated nodegraphs from components/scatters.

Cheers,
Azen

Don't use skatter and proxies, but still it crashes a LOT. Using "create material" are unstable, using predefined are more stable (now i only use "Colors-Named").

This bug are annoying. Super simple geometry, and still it doesn't update materials and geometry. I think it's related to Window/hole cutting and the "self healing geometry engine" in Sketchup.
The two cubes are generated from two Push/Pull faces. And then I painted four color patches.

Ahhh....the hole cutting bug and color are not related. It's double side materials in SU. My mistake :)

Is it possible do have the pluggin respect double side materials with "Polygon side" node?

Is the latest version ready for production use? We are still using 3.04.4.5.

I need the following features to work:

* Proxies
* Materials
* Sun/sky connected to sketchup

Should we move from 3.04.4.5 to the latest version?

Regards,

My answer is a big fat NO :twisted:
Has any version been production ready? (I would not dear use any v3 in work related project.....)

A little more positive mindset.....

....from an architects point of view it's big fun to use the last version in sort of a clay mode. Only one material (specular), and designing volume/window sizing with HDRI from site + daylight feedback > reflections and refractions its ...BIG smile and quite stable :D

interesting johlanga - could you share some examples? :-)

i export to standalone, as sketchup crashes to often for me.

but i really look forward (for years) for a stable version for sketchup with all functions. it does look promising!

Sure, the setup are quite simple.
NB: the project are a long term case and has no deadline, but a possible presentation somewhere on the horizon. I use octane for SU as a sketching tool in parallel with a sketchbook.

-White box to push pull (a lump of clay to get the design going), no material assigned.

-One component, big windows. Specular material and no cutting/gluing.

-One component for windows in part of design secondary functions (typical smaller windows)
This one has cutting opening and gluing and a big depth to illude a room behind window.

The windows are minimalistic so scaling every size is OK.

How to improve stability? I have just tested again......

I wanted to see if i could create an fog effect like the ones Ash Thorp and Christopher Bjerre uses in their shot movie NONE.
https://vimeo.com/184785893

so I created
- a ground box of 500x500 meters,
- a house of "50x50x100",
- a box with an black body emission surface, on the backside of the building
- added some scatter medium to the environment node

moved a bit around, adjusted the size of the box containing the emitter surface, then this group disappeared from the scene on octane, i then pressed octane pause / octane start - CRASH.

maybe sketchup is the fault, but is there anything i can do to help you improve the stability of this plugin?
am i'm the only one have these crashes so often or is it a common problem?

i'll go back to the standalone again.

;) .....Jorgensen, don't use THAT button....it's the CRASH button (someone renamed it long time ago)
