OctaneRender for SketchUp 3.0 Beta 4 Test Release

This update contains all the changes in Octane 3.0 beta 4, as well as adding a demo version.

This is a test release of the Octane 3.0 beta version of the SketchUp plugin. Please keep in mind that this is much more experimental than our current Octane 2.x releases: try it out only if you are willing to experiment.

The 2.x and 3.0 plugins cannot be simultaneously installed with the same copy of SketchUp. Installing the 3.0 plugin should replace the 2.x plugin if you already have it, although for the current beta versions I recommend uninstalling any existing plugins first. If you install the 3.0 plugin and want to go back to 2.x, you will need to fully uninstall the plugin before reinstalling 2.x.

Changes in the Octane 3 SketchUp plugin are mostly internal to the Octane rendering code; the SketchUp side of the application works pretty much the same as it did in the 2.x plugin. Changes to better integrate the new Octane features with the SketchUp user interface will be added in future releases, but this initial beta release is essentially the new Octane 3 rendering code integrated into the existing SketchUp plugin.

Major Changes

* Like the Octane 3 standalone version, the SketchUp plugin uses the new single sign-on system. You still need to have purchased a license for the SketchUp plugin, but it will now be checked automatically when you log in using your Otoy account credentials; you no longer need to keep track of user IDs and passwords for individual licenses.

* Because most rendered images are now stored in your computer's main RAM instead of your video card's RAM (see the section on host film buffers in the Octane 3 feature list), all Octane 3 applications, including the SketchUp plugin, will frequently use a good deal more memory than their Octane 2 equivalents, especially for high resolution renders. You should keep this in mind when upgrading.

SketchUp Version

- The plugin requires SketchUp 2015 or 2016 for Windows x64.
- SketchUp 2016 is recommended.
- If you are using SketchUp 2015, remember to select this when installing the plugin.
- If you have multiple versions of SketchUp, plugins are installed separately for each version.
- The plugin is not compatible with any x86 (32-bit) version of SketchUp.

System Requirements

- 64-bit Intel or AMD CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10 for x64.
- Windows 10 compatibility is still provisional; Windows 8 or 8.1 is recommended.
- One or more recent model Nvidia GPU cards.
- Nvidia drivers 353.x or later.

Support Information

If you have a support issue, please provide the following information:
- Operating system (e.g. Windows 8.1 x64)
- CPU type (e.g. Intel Core i7)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics cards - model (e.g. Nvidia GTX 690 with 4GB)
- Nvidia driver version (e.g. 365.10)
- SketchUp version (e.g. SketchUp Pro 2016 version 16.1.1449 64-bit)
- OctaneRender for SketchUp version (e.g. 3.0.0.4)

The most important part of resolving a problem is our being able to reproduce the problem, so please provide as much detail as possible!

I just upgraded the v3 licence for the standalone for 49 USD. What is the price for updating the SU plugin?

Seeker,

Is your SU 3.04 plugin working with new v3 standalone? Mine is.

Hello all....

Long time no see. I have been very busy working hard and my 3th child was born last month so life just got even more interesting :D

Thank you Cap and Azen for the hard work...and to all the OCT4SU users and testers.

Good to see you Smicha and Seeker...sorry for the long time away, but i was reaaly mad with Octane... :?

Hope i can bring some help to the forum once again.

I will download and test the new version, but still need to understand how the upgrades work....i have blender plugin too, so i need to see how can i upgrade both plugins.

I worked a lot with the old plugin for SU, lots of crashes....and even more amount of patience and "Save file" as much as i could...

Lets see what the V3 brings to SU.

Congratulations Resmas on another family member! Your works look great, appreciate those time lapes videos.

Seeker, when I upgraded just now I had the option to combo upgrade stanalone with either blender or sketchup, saved 30 usd. (Thanks otoy for not making everyone pay with euros!!)

Best,

Hi Smicha,
Not sure what you mean. Do you mean exporting compatability? I meant my SU license is no longer listed in my account. And the v3 trial licences will expire soon.

Maybe you know something I don't...?

I bought v3 standalone only for 49$ (I missed the update for SU plugin). I also installed latest 3.04 SU plugin and it works - I mean I can run 3.04 SU plugin without the new SU v3 licence.

Hey Resmas!
I thought you'd gone over to the dark side... Is it my imagination or have you had those 3 kids in 2 years! No wonder you're only emerging now.

I know how you feel after all the beta testing time and then... frustration. Hopefully the boys see the light now but time will tell. The speed of SU modelling and Octane's render speed. What a combination.

But man your work is as good as ever! Good to see you back.
