PS. It's time to move to 3.x biuld. Please provide exact functionality of what you've already started - the node editor. It certainly requires tons of work, but will benefit in the future. Please give us sun system from the standalone. I think the biggest challenge it to keep a proper group structure in the nodal approach that would reflect SU groups, components, nested groups, and layers (plus support for the layer panel plugin). But it's all doable.
The Octane 3 plugin is in progress as we speak. Until Octane 3 is released, priority goes to bug fixing. There is also the Mac port for the plugin, which is also important. In the meantime, I will make an effort to identify for certain exactly what the challenges/requirements will be to implement this feature, so that Captain can shift into that task more easily.
