OctaneRender for SketchUp 2.24.2.2 - Test Release

The main change in this release is in the installer: you can now choose whether to install for SketchUp 2015 or 2016. It will default to 2016 if you don't select one; you still have the option of explicitly specifying an install directory if you have an unusual custom setup.

Thanks Captain. Any news on 3.0? I am especially interested in the nodal approach.... ;)

Hello Captain,
Issues:
1. Installer gives no visual feedback as to when what is being selected / installed. I got a few notices of 'another install of this package is already running'. But it's hidden behind the installer....?!
2. Then got windows warning Octane for SU has stopped working - close program of check online bla bla
3. Seemed to install nonetheless but the ABOUT window says ' 2.24.2.1' - did it not install correctly or did you just not update the version number?
4. Auto ray-epsilon seems not to work at all - typical visual artifacts
5. The sun is not visible in the same way as it is in standalone? It's set at its smallest.

I'm on SU 2015 and Win 8.1.

Issues 4 & 5 may have been there for a while, I don't know. I am waiting until Otoy takes SU seriously again before I spend a lot of time on it.

Best,
Seeker

Version number was my mistake, sorry. Will look into the other issues.

hello captain , thank you for your work , do you think you could implement the out of core memory feature ?, it would be really usefull , also a way to pack the octane/sketchup scene, so we can continue the work on other computers this two features would make the plugin just perfect :) thank you ...

Seems obvious, but some way to duplicate materials and not having to continually re-apply settings each time a scene changes/live viewer closes would also be magic. Also the ability to change default material type (after it's been created) would make things easier.

Also - mysterious SU force quit when exiting component groups (if Live Viewer open) :)

Thanks for the update Captain 8-)

Everyone else, here's a snapshot of some recent post items into an issues and wishlist list. If we post this every once in a while it can give everyone (users and developer alike) an idea of where we are at all at once (I will do it from time to time too.) This is not in any order, and is by no means a complete up to date 'Master List'. Also, it may be completely overlooking something. But we can all comment and add in wishlist ideas and issues to make the list more current. It's just what I saw in the last few posts. Anyway, this is a start:

FORUM LIST FOR SKETCHUP V2.2

ISSUES
1) errors when installing the demo on computer without the standalone version (Jorgensen)
2) With standalone installation errors - Installer gives no visual feedback as to when what is being selected / installed; notices of 'another install of this package is already running', which is hidden behind the installer; Install windows warning Octane for SU has stopped working - close program / check online (Seekerfinder)
3) Auto ray-epsilon seems not to work at all and gives visual artifacts (Seekerfinder)
4) The sun is not visible in the same way as it is in standalone. It is set at its smallest. (Seekerfinder)
5) Octane plugin windows go white/blank. This seems to be related to closing some of the plugin windows out while other plugin windows are still open. (Notiusweb)

WISHLIST
1) out of core memory feature (pasmangiu)
2) way to pack the octane/sketchup scene, so we can continue the work on other computers (pasmangiu)
3) A standalone-like sun map, in addition to single sun parameters, which would act as a 'coordinate adjuster' for the adjustable plugin sun parameters (ie - latitude, longitude, etc). (Notiusweb)
4) Nodal approach of V3.0 (smicha)

WORKAROUNDS
(1) Tab Whitening (going blank)
If you feel you have to close out of SU and reload the whole scene in SU in order to get plugin windows functioning again because they are all white, first try and close out all the Octane tabs, then open up the 'Octane Viewport', followed by the materials. Or in reverse. Key is to have all the plugin windows closed, and then re-opened. Usually after this, or after some tries, the functionality will be restored without needing to close out and reopen SU itself, and your current settings will still be maintained. (Notiusweb)

(2) Materials not updating
Click that round arrow for building geometry on the 'Octane Viewport', it seems to then 'unlock' the live updating of materials that you are attempting to edit. For example, if you change a car's body color, but then when you try the windows the window material doesn't update, try rebuilding the geometry on the Viewport. It should allow the new material to be tweaked just fine. (Notiusweb)

(3) Export to OCS causes 'Octane Viewport' to turn to mush
Way to resolve is by clicking that round arrow for building geometry on the 'Octane Viewport'. This button returns it back to normal, although it does have to render again. (Notiusweb)
