Roadmap

Hi all,

I promised some sort of a roadmap to give you all an idea of what's going to happen with the SketchUp plugin. So here is my vision (I'll structure it properly over time):

Sketchup 2015 x64 only
Mainly I'm going to focus on Sketchup 2015 x64 because this is aligned with Octane SDK roadmap to get rid of x86 version so it's going to be one version from now (I'll support 2015 x86 for a bit but eventually I'll get rid of it as well since SU2015x64 is the only product that makes sense to work with). Yes, this means your old SU 6,7,8,2013 and even 2014 will no longer work with Octane.

OctaneStandalone UI
Octane4SU UI that has been build around crappy SketchUp API WebDialogs is going to perish over time. I'm going to bring Octane Standalone UI components to SketchUp so it will most likely look like Octane Standalone integrated into SketchUp, and SketchUp itself will be just a provider of geometry.

This is a very high-level overview of the work that has to be done. I see that it's the only way to provide a high quality product with the amount of resources that we have.

Expect to see something like this soon(ish).

Awesome!!

One for the roadmap please!

... and, just perhaps, animation sequences? So not all SU users will want to learn LUA. SU interpolates decently between view tabs, creating decent enough animations. Would it be so hard to somehow port that function to the plugin? Maybe convert those coordinates somehow to LUA?

Now you talk, Bro. Now I see the bright light for Octane and SU.
3090, Titan, Quadro, Xeon Scalable Supermicro, 768GB RAM; Sketchup Pro, Classical Architecture.
Custom alloy powder coated laser cut cases, Autodesk metal-sheet 3D modelling.

Hi Fuzzybro,

Good to hear you're back. We at least have the moral back. Your call if in need of testers.

Hi fuzzybro,

could you give us an update on whether you will be working on a native mac OS X sketchup plugin?

At the moment, if we want to stay in OS X we have to use octane standalone otherwise port back and forth into windows to create renders and back into OS X for post production - be great to work through the one OS.

Thanks for all the hard work!!

Unfortunately, no. We don't have that many Mac users to port it. Tho I'm trying to push the code to be cross-platform so one day I'll just release a Mac version. But it won't happen any time soon.
