Some observations

I have just started using Octane, so some of these observations could just be due to missunderstandings, but first impressions are important, right?

-UV maping from SketchUp is only used for the diffuse node and bump? If a make an emiter material the emissive texture is not using the SU UV (but should be imo), so something like matching a flame to the bilboard is very difficult. Drag dropping maps between nodes in the editor would be nice.
-Colorized SU maps are not exported as colorized. (It works in the SU-MaxwellRender plugin, so it is doable).
-I set Octane materials to an object in one file, then imported it to another SU file where that material became swapped to another. Changing the material didn't remove the wrong material. Why?

Edge rounding is not workig right, or I am not doing it right...
When I set a value for edge rounding on a the material shows tiangulation on planar faces. On glossy materials it looks like only half of the triangles are glossy. And I can not see any rounding.

Hi Sheiken,

Are you able to post a screen-shot so we can see what is going on?

I have two 10cm*10cm*10cm cubes, both converted into glossy. The one on the right has Edge Rounding set to 0,1.

What is 0,1 supposed to do? A R1 rounded edge?

Here is the rotten apple:
Set to glossy in a separate file, then imported to another file.
The Ocrane color picker says the material is Rectangles Stacked (not present in this or the previous scene, backfaces have no material). The Octane materials editor says it is metal_scrathed, which I used on the sink in the image, and it looks like it in the renderviewport. The SketchUp material editos still says it is apple_texture.

I was now able to get the apple texture back By selecting convert to glossy, but previously it did nothing...

Here is one component from the 3D Warehouse that refuses to render properly...

You can download from the 3dWarehouse, look for Horno siemens HB74AS550E

Can we save Octane materials (skm with Octane settings or linking) into SketchUp materials libraries? Or in other words, where is the Octane conversion setting stored (in the skp, the skm or a separate file)?
I would like to be able to store that data inside the skm, so I can make libs of my frequently used materials.

hi there,

the round edges feature is indeed a bit buggy in the latest beta for su 15 64 bit - dont know of the other versions...

if, however, the radia is set very small like 0.01 or lower it kinda works even with the "errrors"... ...

Hi Sheiken,

Materials are saved inside of skp file.
Working with skm is tricky is requires quite a bit of work so I left this feature behind.

The workaround to form a material library is to export scenes to ocs and then import materials from them.

As for broken scenes:
Sometimes normals are broken inside of Sketchup. For this case use Right Click on Geometry -> Octane Mesh -> and select to rebuild normals. That should fix the issues.

I'll check the warehouse model later.

I did some more testing on the rounded edge parameter. I get a decent result when the setting is 0,008. That gives me something that looks like a R8mm rounding on the face, but the actual edge is still sharp.

I know there has been trouble with smoothing SketchUp geometry because the edges are actually not welded in the SU file (and I think the coordinates of edges are actually slightly apart).
The manual says the edges need to be welded for the round edge to work, so I assume that is the problem.
This problem has been solved in other export plugins, so I know there is a way of fixing it.

I assume the unit here is radius in metres, but I think it would be much more intuitive in mm.
