Hi,

I would not suspect an issue, from what I see from the screenshots. Eventually different material properties/attributes. On the glass cylinder, the roughness seems to differ.

Could you screenshot both Universal Material properties, respectively?

this is the same scene with all the same properties and different results, you can download this test project and check it

Im having the same issue with all my old projects that im trying with the new octane now

I've used Universal Material for everything, even for glass.
It used toe be as easy as "unchecking" Albedo and getting rid of Metallic reflection and voila, the Universal Material acted like a specular.

But not anymore.

Now you have to really use a Specular material.
Is that on purpose?

Hi,
to fix the issue, please go to Universal material/Transmission channel, and change the type to Specular instead of Diffuse.
In previous versions,Specular was the default type, but there was an issue with Mix Material Diffuse+Glossy conversion to Universal, for leaves and similar translucent flat objects:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=78663&p=406664&hilit=transmission+diffuse#p406664

So has been set to Diffuse, and you need to set the type to Specular, if the Universal material has to behave like a Specular material.

ciao,
Beppe

Beppe to the rescue.

I do not think I have ever used The Universal Material for just a simple glass material.
For such glass material, I personally use the Specular Material since Octane does offer "individual lobes", so to speak.

The old Materials are only there for legacy reasons i guess? All that "old" stuff should have a "legacy" Label.

its always those small changes that f**k up your workflow :D

i know i could just read up whats changed in the log, but it would be nice to have a function like cinema itself, where new stuff is highlighted in yellow
