Why do HDR skies overexpose my render?

Hi all,

I've thus far been making renders without an HDR background and it's come to my attention that they dramatically improve reflectances and can make your object look much more real. Buuuut every time I try to add one in it destroys my scene.

I've tried reducing power, even deleting all other lights but still same problem! Here is a https://drive.google.com/open?id=1xjal--j185oZsh1Oa-EH-T4HzTBIwdFG. It is probably something terribly obvious. Appreciate ant help on this noob question!

Try gamma in hdri texture and don't use Bitmap, ImageTexture is your friend

Thank you. Is this where you mean to switch to ImageTexture? Probably not because it didn't change anything that I notice. I'm sorry, cannot seem to find those options you mentioned.

Could it be that I am using HDR and I should be using EXR file type?

I changed the color profile to linear and that seemed to make it work, though I'm not sure if that is what it is supposed to look like.

Hi,

Hdri 32 bit images should always be loaded as gamma 1 into Image texture since they are linear Image files as are 32 bit exr. The problem is that there are countless hdri available online which are simply badly produced so you have to shift values around and leave the gamma 1 starting point. Even commercial hdri are sometimes really bad. In the end adjust values to reach your preffered for visual look.

Do not use C4D 's Bitmap shader. We have ImageTexture node with many extra native parameters
