What is "ao alpha shadow" for?

Hi!

I checked the manual for this but couldn't find it after a search. Does anyone know what the settings "ao alpha shadow" is for in the info passes?

Hi,
Alpha shadow option is necessary to handle transparency and opacity textures, but costs rendering power.
The option you mentioned is relative to the Ambient Occasion pass in the Info Passes group.
Here is with the option disabled:
