Hi Beppe, tested at half and crash, black screen needs hard reset. Any other idea? Thanks !

What about your PSU?

Hi Beppe, I do not think it's that, the only thing that cause that kind of crash is Octane, nothing else, i already test a lot of Apps and software GPU related (including Redshift) and videogames for hours and Octane is the only one. Can that happen?

Thanks.

Denoiser tends to reach the peak of power consumption of the selected GPU, so it depends on how much room there is in PSU, when AI Denoiser kicks in.

I'll throw in: I've been having the same issues.
C4D R20.059
Octane 4.02.1 R2 & R3
AMD 1950x

3x 1080tis
1x 2080ti

The crashing hard/instant restart only started when I installed the 2080ti.

We will try to investigate.

Please bear in mind that Octane uses cuDNN (which is an NVidia library), whereas Redshift does not.

It is not possible for software in user mode to trigger an ATX power off - only instructions executed in kernel mode can do that (eg drivers). But usually these problems are caused by inadequate power supply. However, it is not inconceivable that cuDNN is using some obscure driver feature, or by chance causing the driver to do some bad things in kernel mode.

If your particular case is not PSU related, then my current guess is that there is a driver issue.

Any updates on this? Having the exact same issue making the denoiser unusable for production animation. Using 2018.1.2 with 4x 2080tis

EDIT: weird thing - when I went down to 3 cards rendering it works fine. Then when I turn all 4 cards back on but keep "use all gpus" off, it works fine with 4 cards. Not sure if this is stable at all yet

To anyone experiencing this issue, could you please let us know what NVidia driver versions you are seeing this happening on?

Right click your desktop -> Nvidia Control Panel then go to Help > System Information, and the driver version will be listed at the top of the Details window.

Thank you in advance.

i will put myself in the list as well. i already started seeing this issue when using the lightwave plugin when the first octane releases with denoiser appeared. i found then out that the octane.app will have the same issues. my symptoms: mac shuts down hard when using denoiser (with settings to denoise while rendering in progress) in any slightly complex scene scene which uses large resolution. you will need to set it to more or about 2K wide, no matter if final render or IPR. in case the denoising setting is set to 'at completion' it will shut down at that point.

i've heard on PC it's just a shutdown, but on my 2010 mac pro it is a very unusual hard shutdown. you will need to pull the power connection for a few seconds, only then the mac can reboot. i always checked to have enough free VRAM - never out of core was used. also, i verified with a hardware monitor tool that no serious power issues with PSU are the problem. a few months ago i checked this with the lightwave plugin developer juanjo and if i remember correctly he forwarded the question to the core developers.

in the meantime i switched over to C4D and have still the same issue with this platform plugin (and the core app). apparently, small and basic render scenes with small previews / render sizes do not have any problems with the denoiser - maybe one of the reasons why it is not reported by everyone?

in my case it is no RTX card but just an older nvidia 980ti with 6G VRAM. other specs: macpro mid 2010. 48 GB RAM (octanes out of core set to 12G), mac OS 10.13.6, nvidia driver 387.10.10.10.40.127 and CUDA 418.163 (latest).

my C4D plugin version is V4.0.4-R2.
