moving from 3ds max to C4D

Hey everyone,

due to the recent Autodesk subscription and pricing politics, I am currently thinking about moving from 3ds Max to C4D (or maybe another modelling software). As I have not yet much knowledge about C4D , I was also wondering if there were any other compatibility issues to be considered regarding Octane? For example if the instancing system is fully compatible (in RailClone for 3ds Max for example, instances were not recognized by Octane).

Is there anyone who works with both softwares and is able to compare?

Thank you inadvance for your help.

Greetings :D

Hi Philipp1980,
unfortunately, in this moment, you can only download a demo of the new R20, and there is not a c4doctane demo version for R20 currently, but as soon as it will be available, you can download and install both demo versions and try by yourself the differences between 3ds Max and C4D workflow.
C4D has its own instances system, and c4doctane can use it and also has a special Scatter object.
There are oobviosly different plugins from max, like Forester, instead of Forest Pack, or X-Particles and Turbulance FX, instead of PhenixFD or Fume, for example.
From the octane plugin side, c4doctane is the best integrated plugin, in my opinion :)

Hey Beppe,

thank you for your answer. That sounds promising. I will test it as soona s it's available... Do you know when that would be?

Also I've got another question: Is there a material converter in Octane for C4D that converts Vray-materials into Octane materials? I mean corresponding to the Material-Converter in Octane for 3ds max?
