C4D Takes System rendering over network

Hi

We have a 10ge network and we're currently trying to render 40 images over the network using our 10x GPu via the Takes system in C4D. We're getting an issue where the render will have 3000 samples but it will stop at 2800 and then just sit there for hours doing nothing. The typical time for a render over the network with all slaves on is usually 1:30, when this bug hits the render time just goes forever, example last night one of the images was on for 13 hours!

When we restart the "render marked takes' starting from the image that stalled, it renders fine within 1:30 and carries on through the other takes until another image stalls the system. We can't work out what causes the issue.

The 10gb network has been very robust since we swapped all cables to CAT6a and we barely have any loss or errors over it.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Cheers

Hi,
from your description, I don't think that the connection is the issue here, but more likely how the scenes are built.
Do you have c4d shaders in your materials, or bitmaps without proper ImageTexture node?
Tipically, the network system can have issues in that condition.
You can check the state of the shaders in LV menu Materials/Texture Manager.

Brilliant beppe we'll try that, also going to try a few scenarios such as dragging the files to the local machine instead of working off the NAS drive along with saving locally.

We have noticed that when rendering with takes in 3.06 over a network that the system has to regather the available gpu's, is there a way to say that a single machine has use of them instead of it releasing then re gathering the gpus?

Hi,
good point about NAS paths, about master configuration, please, have look at the new features of 3.07:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=62395
now you can create network daemon list to better setup your master/slaves connections.

We're still getting the same issue and there are no C4d shaders or bitmaps in the scene. It will render say 10 takes and then the 11th will freeze on 90% - renders are only 2mins but when it freezes its indefinite. If we restart the takes system on the 11th it will render fine and carry on until it freezes randomly on another take.

Can't figure out what would cause this issue, any ideas?
