Bump only in Live view?

Hi, I'm very new to Octane, and only been using C4D for a few months. Spent 18 years with 3D Max, mental ray & VRay, so please bear with me!

Trying to do a realistic render of a car, with a stock mesh. I've used an HDR, and created the shaders myself. In an attempt to make things a little less perfect, I tried adding some surface imperfections by way of a bump map.

The weird thing is, they only appear in the Live view, they don't show up in the picture viewer (attached jpeg) You can see the little dings on the door in the live viewer, not in the picture viewer version.

I've googled, read the FAQ, and searched the forum, but can't find this problem. Anyone any ideas?

Hi, it's version 3.06.

The texture type is a layer with a marble, and a bitmap - I've attached an screen grab.

Thanks,

Using Layer or C4D textures is not an ideal usage for Octane.
Also same for XBitmap vs. ImageTexture. Go with ImageTexture type rather than C4D Bitmap.

Thanks for such a quick reply! I have one other question about this render I was working on - I have a plane under the car, which has 'matte' checked in the common parameters, yet the entire square still creates a dark area, not just the shadow from the car. Why is that? Thanks

Hi OllyVenning,
the Shadow catcher option is the old way, please, look at the Render Layer technique in the following c4doctane videotutorial page:
https://docs.otoy.com/Octane_Render_Por ... nema4D.htm
Or at the documentation here:
Render Layer Passes

Hi, I know it's a bit crazy to come back to this post 5 months later... I'#m pretty sure I checked out the links back then (they are dead now), and I think one of them was the video by Dobromir:
https://vimeo.com/119848103

I understand the workflow, and flexibility of the method. However, this method produces two images for every frame; a beauty & a separated shadow. For the sake of speed, I often like my beauty and transparent shadow in one layer. Is this possible using the layer pass workflow?
