Rendering crash due to memory

So the last few days we have been trying to render over night for a client project but are returning to the machine in the morning to a crashed software and only a handful of frames.

I managed to get a screenshot of the error before the whole system died...But was unable to get a crash report as Cinema 4D is never responding at this point.

Here are my specs.
Windows 10 Home // Octane Version 3.05.3 // Nvidia Driver 378.66 // Cinema 4D R18 Plugin 3.05.3
Asus X99-E WS // Intel Core i7-6800k // 2x 12GB NVIDIA TITAN X (PASCAL) // Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 32GB

Could this be a problem with memory or is this software related?

Its important we get this sorted as soon as possible so help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a lot of triangles from non-movable geometries and using auto detection(by default) that can happen. Plugin converts static meshes in a single buffer and out-of-memory is possible. In LV mode is all movable and so this is not happening. Because each movable objects are exported in small buffers. So this is not a bug for my opinion. Will be moved. Try All movable for rendering or add some object tags to objects. My advice is first method.

Thanks for the advice I will try this option today.

So do you think Octane is filling up system memory? I'm suprised this works like this when my out of core is set to 4gb I think.

Is it all ways good practice to set the render to all moveable when doing a final animation render?

Should I also turn off out of core?

This is about export process for meshes in plugin not Octane. I think my answer is about geometries not textures.

Sorry my bad. If this is the problem, it's hard for me to comprehend how the plugin or Octane is managing to fill up 32gb of ram with geometry.

You said before that 'this can sometimes happen when renderer is set to autodetect'.

It's fair enough when someone is getting a small error but this is causing a whole system crash.

Hi,

I also have this Asus X99 E WS Board and fighting since one week with C4D/Octane crashes,
bluescreens and always autobooting into Bios.
(i7 6850K, 64 Gig G.Skill, H115i, 2x 980ti 1x titan old, Amfeltec Cluster)

I finally removed 2 Ram Sticks.
So with only 2 x 16 Gig placed in the grey slots left and right to the CPU it seams to work!

Also I removed one Gpu ( titan old) from the 5th Pci-Slot.
In Slot 1 and 3 I have 2 GTX 980Ti and in Slot 7 is the card from the amfeltec cluster installed.

Right now its working and since 2 days I haven't any crashes anymore.

I think this Board has massive problems with Ram or when all PCI slots are filled
Not the sence of matter to by 64 Gig Ram and only can use 32 Gig.
I'm trying to get in contact the vendor and Asus support as well, but without any luck so far.

Maybe we need a serious 100% recommendation, which Ram to use with this board

regards
Mike

Ahhh thanks for the info sharing your experience. I did think this could be a ram/motherboard issue after months of instability and trying to get to the bottom of it. I'm currently on my work account but having same troubles with my personal machine too which has the same motherboard and ram.

I might just bite the bullet and buy another mobo cause I'm tired of these problems, I'll also call ASUS and speak to them about this. I'll let you know my findings.

yes please post, if you get more infos.

The strange thing is, from that moment it worked for the first time (with only 32 Gig installed),
I tried to investigate further and placed back the other, removed, Dimms and after that
also reinstalled the removed GPU - and wounder! - now its working with all 64 Gig RAM
and all GPUs without crashes so far.

So my conclusion atm is: Never touch or activatre "XMP" and leave everything on defaults in Bios.
My G.Skills 2400 are running with 2133 and all seams fine. At least for the moment.

I found this strange that my Corsair Vengence 3000 is running at 2133, I'm wondered if this is not set properly in the bios.

This is something I don't miss about PC, when you have a problem it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

Any solution for this? I'm having the same issue and can't figure out a solution. Just bought a new computer and specs are basically the same as OP but I have a single 1080 ti and an Intel 7700k. I love Octane and I'd hate to have to switch renders.

I've tried everything .
