Alembic Particle Geo and Octane.

So i got a grain simulation from Houdini in Alembic format.
Imported Alembic in C4D, selected "Points - As Particle Geometry" in Alembic Import Settings.
And then, when i selected Particle Geometry and applyed ObjectTag, there is no particle related tab inside object tag, so i cant render that particles.

It's not surprising. Because it just support the Oparticle(standard emitter), RFRK_PARTICLER, ID_TFD_FLUID_CONTAINER, OXPEmitter(Xparticle), OXPDomain. It's not a simple progress to add a support for a specific object type.

Hello,

I had the same problem, import particles from Houdini as points :
Octane on c4d doesn't recognize points directly (as it does in the houdini version though).

So I just made an Octane scatter object and pointed it on the alembic import.
You'll have to import the alembic in geometry mode (not TP mode).

It is quite nice though because you can add some variations with effectors if needed.

Cheers

Brilliant! Do you use vertex distribution?

Thx Aoktar,

yes simple vertex distribution, the max number is bypassed I guess.

so, is this supposed to work, still?
using the RFRK_PARTICLER with a bin-particle sequence and adding an object tag to it, it actually offers "particle rendering" in the object tag.
but nothing is being rendered? is it to be used in a somewhat different way than it is used with e.g. xparticles?
how does this work?

I am so happy to have found this post -- saving my life here. I have been trying to figure out how to import a simulation from Storm 0.2 for days.
Any idea on how to use the velocity information ?

If anyone has a thought on importing -- .ABC, .PRT or .BIN for use with Octane particles/scatter, would love pointed in the right direction!

Hi,

im trying to replicate this but im missing something.. Can somebody help me with this?

"So I just made an Octane scatter object and pointed it on the alembic import. "
This means you made an alembic file from Pointcloud file using houidini?

"You'll have to import the alembic in geometry mode (not TP mode)"
Do you mean using Alembic Generator Object in c4d?

it'll be great if you can help me,
im using c4dr21

thanks
Alberto
