Multipass layers completely black

Postby altestudio » Sat Jul 02, 2022 5:09 pm

I have selected several passes to render in the AOV group, I have multilayer file checked, save beauty, show passes, and saving as an EXR 32 bit channel.

I can see the different passes in the live viewer (diffuse, shadow etc) when clicking between them but when I go to render and click on the multi-pass tab all of the passes are there but they're completely black.

And when I go to extract them in after effect they are completely black too.

Can someone help?

Check it with latest build, there was a display problem in a recent build.

I updated to the latest version but am still having the issue. I am using aces and having this exporting with that color space but when I change it to sRGB I still get the same problem.

Does anyone know what's going on? This is so frustrating

It may be a bug or wrong setup. Just send a scene, I'll check it.

Thanks, please see below a wetransfer link to the file. It works in the live viewer not in picture viewer or EXR. It's not a complicated scene at all.

I don't see any render AOVs for output or set any file names! Is this expected scene to send? Are you using filepath from Octane Render AOV group?

Sorry, that was from my Octane X version which is earlier and doesn't use AOVs

Here is one from my windows machine with the latest version of octane

https://we.tl/t-dcORyqEe0K

I have a location set for the output of the EXR but nothing actually seems to get exported there, and when I click on multi-pass in the Layer tab of the picture viewer I can see the different AOVs listed but there are all completely black.

Are you able to clarify your comment above, I couldn't find render AOVs for output or set file names for them, are you taking about specifying the render pass file for the render AOV group tab? I've put a path but like I say nothing gets exported there.

I'm following a tutorial on youtube and it seems to be working perfectly for everyone on there except for me, is there something wrong with my machine? it's strange because I get the exact same problems on my Mac Octane X as well as windows, is there a setting I'm missing?

I don't know OctaneX but It's working well with latest windows builds. I advice to update to latest stable. Also do not use C4D's renderpass saving section. Use our render AOV outputs as in picture. And use Octane-EXR for expected results.

Ok I think I might know what's happening, I think the passes are created at the very end of the render instead gradually alongside it, I usually stop my render half way through and export it, thanks for your help though!

Having the exact same problem as the OP - any AOVs are showing black in the Picture Viewer but correct in the Live Viewer.

Using the latest builds (2022.1.2) in R20 and 2023

Simple scene created and linked which is giving the error:

Any ideas on how to fix this? Or is it a bug?

Thanks
