Think it was the ip address in front of the path, which you can see in the "Resolved Path" from the AO:Main pass PPG.
I check if the path is existing, but i haven´t test it with shared network drives.

Will test and try to fix it,

Hi,

as we upgraded to RC12 our renders becomes darker than before without any change in scene. To match old render with the new one we must add gamma 2.2 to already corrected exr. In other words we must add 2x gamma 2.2 correction to the linear exr.

Any ideas?

From which version you have updated and with which image format it happens?

I believe it was RC11 or RC10 not less. We are using exr output, but before RC12 exr was png actually.

Well, the problem with the shared network folder should be solved.
It wasn´t so simple as i thougth. First i convert the ip (\\192.168.x.x) into a computer name (\\WHATEVER). Then i checked if the converted path (\\WHATEVER\images\) was possible to read. After that, i had to create a file into the network folder to get a result. This result is checked for security issues (write access, etc...). And at last, i deleted the testfile.
When all i ok, i use the converted path for the image output. But i haven´t include it for textures which are in a shared folders. I think i must also convert it into a readable filename.

The next step is to take a look into the gamma issue and then to build a new release.

That has something to do with my optimization. I have tried that the exr output matches the png output.
In the standalone, the exr is lighther. When you want it, i can make it the same as in the standalone.
So you will have a difference from what you see to what you get.

It´s possible to add an option, where you can switch between the original Octane standalone and the current output.

I don't get why exr should be different from png in render region withing XSI. It should be same. Other thing is when you compare image files in some external viewer. Exr is written in linear color space so to look correct you must apply some LUT typically sRGB profile. On other hand png is already color corrected (as I believe) and is written as sRGB image. That's mean if you compare both files without any LUT applied exr will be always darker than png.

So I don't understand why should be exr even lighter than png.

Render region?
I become one image from Octane, it is either an untonemaped or a linear tonemapped exr image buffer. This can be changed in the Render settings with the tonemap type.
This image buffer is also used to generate the png and to generate the preview and the render window output.
So, what you see in the preview/render window is ever the png, the exr isn´t shown everywhere.
You will see the exr only when the image buffer is saved as a exr file.

In the past, i have tried that the exr file looks nearly the same as the png, but this was wrong i think.
Now i save it the same way as in the Octane standalone or as in MentalRay, where the exr result looks brighter as the png output when you show it in an external viewer. That is what the images above show, the render output from Softimage and from the Octane standalone.

You can try it with the Octane standalone or in MentalRay.
So i think the next plugin version should be correct.
