Hey mate,
just playing with version 1.02 RC7 in Softimage 2015 and can't get geometry instances generated in ICE to render. ("Set-Instance-Geometry" node.)
If I create an instance with Edit-Duplicate-Instantiate, the resulting instances render OK.

Is this a limitation of the plug-in, or is their a technique I'm missing?

ICE is on the plan to implement the next time.
But before i will implement shader compounds and bring back the material preview.

The only solution for now is to use a plugin to convert ICE into real geometry...

one of the best with many other options is the emTopolizer from my friend Eric Mootz:
