A usefull workflow for highpoly scenes...
When you have a large scene, you should have a polygon reduced version.
Start with a new project.
Hide the highpoly, show the lowpoly and click the Render Frame button.
Change the settings you want.
Save the scene.
Switch the low with the highpoly.

To render stills, set the start, end, step in the Animation group to 1.
Set "Use Preset" under "Pix Samples" off and choose any high value eg 20000.
Enter a image name.
Click the "Render Animation" button.
Now you can wait till the result is what you want and save the image.

For animation, do the same but with the difference to set the correct start/end and sample values.

This workflow should be worked ever, till the object motion blur is integrated into Octane, i think.

The background is, that we use two different objects. One for stills, one for animation.
The lowpoly mesh is the mesh, which is loaded, when you load the existing scene in Octane.
For animation, we load the existing ocs. That loads the lowpoly mesh and relink it with the highpoly mesh.
So Octane don´t need to load 2 times the highpoly mesh.
That saves time...

Nothing to do..dideldum...

I think i will modify the interactivity in the textfields a little bit, later.
The behavior should be more intelligent...

Well, everytime I hit "render frame" button in the exporter, Octane crashes on startup :(. After 30 minutes of trying, I gave up. No succes. Octane crashes all the time on load, if it is called from Softimage.

Which windows/softimage version?
How shows the crash, see the splashscreen from Octane, give Octane a messagebox?
More infos please, with octane crashes, i can´t work ;)
Maybe fill your computer spects in your profile, that will reduce the question about it...

Little info on the coming update...

Bugfixes:
Check if the project path exists and give access to input the project name. In the other way, remove the access to the project name...done
When "Use Existing Project" is aborted, let the previous text in the project path and name...done
When the image filename is not set, it will be set automatic to the project path, when the projectpath is set the first time and valid...done
Filter the input in the "Use GPU" textfield. Clear all none numeric inputs and sort the rest numeric...in work

Enhancements:
You can only choose the right octane.exe. Versions below 2.2 will not accepted. If you select the wrong version, the textfield will cleared ..done

Oh, I'm sorry. I am running win7 64bit, Softimage 2010 64bit. Hardware: cpu quadcore 9550 3.7GHz, 8gb ram, Gainward 285gtx 2gb ram, Asus maximus formula motherboard.
Whenever I want to export scene to Octane, and press "render frame" button, Softimage starts to export, but when I shoud expect Octane launching, there is a message that appears "octane.exe has stopped working". Here is what is written in problem details:
