Hair material specular

Hello

what is the correct workflow to use Hair material.
there is no doc about it, or i can't find one.

my principal probleme is that i cant lower the specular intensity.
i have dark hair and i need to have low specular.

by the way, what is the "hair material" in the atribute editor description ?

thank you

Hi M,

Thank you for the post.
Are you using nHair, Xgen or other plugins? Sorry about the documentation we are working on it!

Maybe try playing the roughness values to lower the specular!
The Octane Hair Material rollout can be used to apply Octane Hair Material via Pfx node.

Would you please share a sample here or PM directly?

Cheers
Kind Regards

Thank you BK.

yes i am using Xgen.
I think it's more easy for you to test it yourself.
create 2 spheres. one with a grey color (for the light calibration) the other with the xgen.
assign a black hair shader to the xgen sphere.
change the albedo to black
play with the roughness. in this case, i never have a correct specular. i have a ultra white spec or a washed grey hair.

thank you for the Pfx node.

Hello M,

Thank you for the response.
Could you please check the attached scene and let us know the issue?

Thank you BK.
it's not really visible on your scene, but we can see some strong specular. They look ok here, because of the strong sky ilumination and the form of the hair.
Look at know with a low light and some brushed hair. The specular are really too strong, and if i change the roughness, the hair will become grey.

sorry for my terrible english...

Thank you, M, for the scene.
we had a quick look and it seems the over highlight issue is to do with light intensity.
Please take the `Power` value down to 3 - 4 or move away from the hair.

Also, to correctly calibrate the light please apply Octane Hair, Glossy or Specular material on the sphere geo to compare.

Attaching a quick sample using `Albedo` and the `Melanin + PheoMelanin` workflow for reference.

Thank you Bk :)

i will test and upload the result tomorow.

I have the impression that the last file you uploaded is identical to the 1st.

Hello
i put the same glossy Material to spheres, plane and Left hair (i changed the color for this one).
The right hair is the Octane Hair material.
the light is at power 3.

it's not a light intensity issue, imo.
