Can't render XGEN with OCTANE
This helped me a lot, I have successfully rendered it!

Sorry to jump this thread but I also searched the documentation and the forum to see if you can load a vdb sequence into maya. (I know you can in the stand-alone)
When you search the maya board forum for laod vdb it says in 2016 :>) that you are looking into implementing it.

I have a sneaky suspicion that you are able to do this but can't find the location where to see how.

Thanks

Hi Peter,

It's alright!! Sorry, the Octane Volume page is mixed under the Lighting section in OFM documentation. We will get this fixed ASAP.
Please find the OctaneVolume page [ https://docs.otoy.com/MayaH/MayaPluginM ... Volume.htm ] and the youtube link [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=5-ATZ1J8SdE ]

OFM VDB can also be created from Octane Nodes> (Octane menu, Hypershade, NodeEditor, or from the new Octane Panel). Then, please enable the Use File Sequence option from the Attribute editor.

cheers
Kind Regards

Ahhhh perfect saved my ass with your reply.

This might be an inherit characteristic of VDB sequences and how they are originally created... but if you parent a octaneVolume to a locator and try an animate it... it seems to not stick with the locator...

Is this a vdb issue, maya, octane?

I have a work around but it involved moving everything else relative to the vdb ... including the camera which was a pain in the buttocks... any other way you know of.

Thanks again for the other info... saved me a bunch of premiere layers : > )))

Hey Peter,

Thank you!! Parenting OctaneVDB to the locater works on my workstation.
Please select the OctaneVdb box> then shift key > select the locater> and press P(to parent) or In the Outliner, Hold Middle mouse button to OctaneVDB> and drop it to the locater you wish to parent it .

Hope you will find this helpful. If it doesn't work please attach your sample scene.

cheers
