Mesh light with octane light

The only time my mesh light (texture emission on a plane geometry) works, is if my only other octane light's power is turned to 0. Can any1 explain what this behavior is? I don't want to mess with light passes in post either. I just would like to combine an octane light with a mesh light.

Ok, it seems this happens with I'm in Ambient Occlusion rendering mode. I switched to diffuse and it allowed me to use both light sources. Why is that? What is it about Ambient Occlusion that I can only use 1 light?
