Hello everyone,
I will keep it short.
I open the octane viewport. it closes itself.
a popup appears and says: Render failure in viewport rendering. GPU failure check log for error detail.
log says:
CUDA error 2 on device 0: out of memory
-> failed to allocate device memory
device 0: failed to upload data texture 34 '0:__data31__'
BUT
"use cpu memory" is enabled.
cpu memory limit 32gb
gpu headroom 100mb

I thought if the vram runs out the cpu memory should kick in?
Can someone help me?

4xRTX 2080ti
3ds max 2020.2
octane 2019.1.4 stable

Hello,

I have the same problem, even though I also have 6x 2080 Ti all with Nvlink. + 128 Gb Ram

I solved it by raising the gpu headroom. I went up to 800, but then I had to put it at the max. The problem in my case was some trees. It has something to do with the amount of Polys in a single object.

But changing the gpu headroom, it doesn't make any sense according to the manual.

But who cares if it solves the problem. :D

@samsue
thank you, this somehow solves the problem.
I do have 3x tree proxys in my scene so your assumption might be right.
A dev should take a look at it. ;)
