I finally found a solution after hours browsing internet ...

It seems that 3dsmax try to load scanline thumbnails in the material editor instead of octane thumbnails.
When opening the file that crash, i switch to scanline, i open material editor and then i switch to octane.
Then the file stop crashing every time i use the material editor.

Hi thekwen,
I will send this report to developers if they can do something or it depends on 3dsMax.
