How to do SSS on Max ?!

I must be missing something but I try desperately to do some SSS with Octane 3 on Max 2014 without any success.

I followed all the steps of the manual https://docs.otoy.com/#3ds-max-v3-using ... ce-mediums and the only result is a glass-looking marterial.
(I'm in PMC with a specular material on teapots and cubes on a plane)
And playing with the parameters (transmission, density, absorption) seems to do just nothing! Why?

And documentation says different things at different places :
Should I set reflection to a high or low value?
Should i set directly the transmission's value or use a "float texture" node?

And all the tutorials are for C4D or standalone wich dont work the same way. It's just driving me crazy!

Is there any 3DS Max Scattering tuto somewhere?

Hi Fabrice,
with sss materials you have to use scattering or absorption nodes.
Attached a 3dsmax sss examples with materials made of diffuse or specular material.

Hi Paride,
still struggling with SSS...
I'd like to create some crystal sugar (on op of a chocolate sphere).

I succeeded having some nice SSS effect (thanks to your help) on the little particle pieces
but still have a big problem :
there's allways some black spot in my renderings.
And I cant get rid of this overall black tint...while the sugar should be globally white).

Maybe it's related to the very small size of the object?
(chocolate sphere is less than 1cm (o,3 inche))
Any advice?

Hi Fabrice,
I think it depends on using white rgb color in the enviroment slot.
Try using different light sources.

Hi,
I'm trying now how to make a foam material (as in the references uploaded).
But I still cant figure out how to set up sss.
The color is dull and too dark, the light is weird...and render is awfull.
It look like bad wax or soap but absolutly not foam.
(I started from a sss specular material Paride sent me)
I'm lost with sss...
Any help ?
