material conversion with opacity maps buggy?

Hey everyone,

I discovered a strange problem:

We switched from Octane 2.xx to 3.xx so that now all scenes have to be converted when first opened. Everything seems to work out fine EXEPT the plant materials. In every converted scene all plant materials are converted incorrect. I discovered so far that they completely lose their opycity maps. However I am able to load the exact same material without error from my formerly saved material library and assign in back to the plants. It is ofc a pain in the ass-workflow to do that with all my former scenes all the more because I did not save every plant materials into the library. Then I have to reproduce them. Is that a known issue?

Another question in addition to the plants material problem: Does enyone know high quality trees with finished Octane materials? Also cars? :)

Regards to everyone :)

Would you be able to send a smaller v2 scene that has this problem to us? Sounds like there might be an issue in the converter.

Hi,

Sorry about this, it seems we missed this one !
The 'Greyscale image' map are indeed not converted properly, and some are used as opacity map in those plant materials ..
This will be fixed in the next release, 4.31

Thanks for the feedback !

Working a bit in a project with the V3 version, I noticed that there are more conversion issues not related to opacity maps.

Some materials just aren't converted at all but turn out into simple white glossy materials. They lost all their connected maps. I'm not sure right now wheter this is related only to multi materials or also single materials.

That's a huuuuge problem for me right now, because I cannot import and convert my old material libraries. Doe anyone know what to do?

Hi Philipp1980,
could you kindly share your Multimat in a scene test before you convert it?

Hi Paride and Octane Team,

after doing some tests I believe that I've found out the following:

When I open an old scene (V2) with the conversion enabled, it's working fine except the above mentioned bug with the opacity maps of the plants. BUT if I want to merge an object from an old scene into a V3-scene, the converter simply does nothing. Thus I have to open the old scene, let it convert the materials completely, save it and afterwards I can import one of the old objects into the new scene.

Workflow = 0 :cry:

Can you reproduce the error? I think sending you the scene won't help...

Greetings & thanks for your help in advance... :)

Hey Elvis,

first of all: not lazy but working 24/7 on several projects… cauz it’s also a question of licenses with the 3d objects, I’d have to prepare a scene, which I can do when I have a bit time to breathe again :).

Plus, as I stated in my former post, I already figured out the problem. I still think it doesn’t really help sending the scene, because the problem has nothing to do with this special scene, object or material.

The problem is related to the workflow. Importing the Octane V2-object into an Octane V3 scene didn’t work --> material hasn’t been converted. But converting the whole V2 scene first and then importing the same object with the same material afterwards worked.

Can you reproduce that?

Greetings
