X-Particles and Motion Blur

I've seen this work in older examples and I've tried all the solutions I could find.
Tag on emitter with geometry enabled
Tag on system
transform/vertex
cache emitter
Nothing gives me motion blur. Some solutions just cause particles to disappear or freak out in the viewport.

I made a simple project to test it with

We have a manual to learn how to do this.
