Options to get a scene into Maya 2012

I got my octane license a long time ago and haven't been around in a while. But I just upgraded my graphics card and octane license and have a project I'd like to push through octane if possible.

The issue is that I'm on maya 2012, and won't be upgrading it for this project. I tried the plugin but it doesn't seem to work, it installs fine but doesn't show up in the plug-in manager (also, the installation process doesn't look anything like the manual says it will, and it definitely never asks which version I'd like to install into as it indicates it will here https://docs.otoy.com/Maya_2_0/?page_id=22).

So, basically, I'm wondering what my options are for importing a scene into the standalone version. I've looked through the manual but I'm having a hard time finding anywhere that just straight-up lists the file types that Ocatne can understand.

I don't have alembic support in 2012, my intention was to use OBJ's but I can't figure out how to get an animated camera into my scene.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Anybody?

The question again is, what types of files can Octane understand that can contain a camera?

If the answer is alembic and nothing then I'd like to know that as well. The plugin doesn't seem to be an option since I it never asked which version and I found it in a maya 2016 folder that it created, I'm thinking it only works in 2016

It seems exocortex or compiling the alembic source code yourself are really the only options, should anyone come across this later.
