Why not Standalone for renting for students?

Hello,

I've been using Octane Demo for a while and I would love to become a subscriber for the full version.

As a student though I cannot afford to buy the standalone version. Plugins don't help me as well because the only software I have and am good at is 3dcoat.
I wold also not like to waste my time learning Blender 2.79 just for the sake of Octane...

Is there a solid reason as to why students can't rent the standalone version?

Hi,
you can get the Unity plugin in free version, limited to 1x GPU, that comes also with a Standalone license:

Hi!

Thanks for replying.

I've never used Unity, pardon my ignorance. So basically I can get a free standalone license if I am okay with running it while inside Unity. Is that it?

Also, other than the 1 GPU limit, is there any other "catch" to it?

No, if you subscribe to a free Unity plugin, you can also download a Standalone 1x GPU version.
You also need to be always online, while working with OctaneRender.

Thanks.

I went ahead and created a Unity ID, installed Unity and downloaded the OctanreRender from unity's asset store. Installed the Octane scene as well. When I load Octane from Unity and go to Version Control, it says "Octane Plugin".

So I feel I am missing something. How can I get to the standalone license from where I am now?

Hi,
please, visit your personal Octanelive subscription page, here you should be able to see your Standalone license, and download it:

Hi again bepe!

Okay, I just created a personal OTOY account using the Unity link and even used the same username and email as my Unity account. So when I click on the link you provided, the page loads correctly but unfortunately there is nothing there :(

Am I out of luck?

Hi bepe! Thank you, that is what I did, waiting for a reply right now :)

In the meantime though, I created a fresh account for both OTOY and Unity and it ended up working just fine, as you said it would. I can definitely see my licenses there! I don't know what I did wrong but it was my fault, sorry.

Unfortunately it doesn't end here. Now I have another issue which is that the "download" button for the "prime standalone" version is grayed out. In the "status" part it says "Available" in green but also "Does not have all access".

Do you know where to take it from this point? Like how do I get to download the standalone version now that I finally sorted out the licensing part?
