This was off. On Modo 901 SP2 it runs much better, but the issue still exist.

No, same artifacts. I have just tested it. And the test ended with a kernel panic.

hi,
the best setup for working with Octane is always to have one GPU (internal, iGPU, Quadro, single slot GTX) for system and monitors only, and one or more GPUs dedicated only for rendering.
Your internal GPU is a portable GPU and it is already heavily used by the system and the big monitor. And it is not the best for rendering, as you can see from the octanebench results:
https://render.otoy.com/octanebench/sum ... +GTX+680MX
Lowering the monitor resolution to something like 1440 or below, should give you a bit of VRAM for playing with very simple scenes, but nothing more.
The only solution for working with Octane on iMac smoothly is to have an external thunderbolt 2 adapter with some desktop GPUs attached to it:

Okay, a Sonnet Echo Express III-D case with a graphics card may be a good solution, isn’t it? But which graphics card is recommended?

Hi,
I'm not completely sure, but, looking at the sonnet specification that you have linked, it seems that it has only one 6pin power connector so it is useless without an external PSU for powering the GTX, not very portable and clean solution :(
Another solution is this, the thunderbolt 2 version seems to be less expansive and you can have up to 2 GTX Titan X in it correctly powered:

I have tested it with dual GTX 780 and it works great.
Or you can look in the big discussion that I linked to you in the previous post for a more economic solutions ;)

I have updates Octane and the CUDA drivers, but I still get these artifacts and kernel panics.

If memory is too small, the software should bring an error message instead of crashing or producing kernel panics. ;-)

However, I found a case for an eGPU and a graphics card. This is enough for a test. If this will work, I can spent a lot of more money in powerful systems.

In Mac OS X 10.11.4 Beta (15E27e) the problem is gone. There is a new driver version for the GPU.
