Hi everyone, I have a big problem, I downloaded th 1.02 version of octane and i cannot import an.obj, it starts loading the file and then the program freezes as it shows "parsing faces" and a continuous progress bar that freezes as well, the rest of the screen goes blank and the system renders non responsive, I am using Win7 x64 with a GeForce 8600GT working fine according to octane.

I dont know what to try, please give me a hand, here is a link to my screen with the error and with the video card info

Can you load that OBJ in another app ? i.e is it not corrupted ?
were you able to load any obj files and the issue is with one specific file ?
It may be that your graphic card 8600 is a bit underpowered, maybe also you do not have the right drivers ?

I had some similar issues and it was usually related to too many material assignments.
Try to rename or move the *.mtl file so Octane cannot find it.
Does it load the one material mesh now ?

Hi,

Can you load simple files ? just to see if it's a driver issue or not ?
like our bench file here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=996

Yeah, I made a test file with just a cube a pyramid and a sphere, with no mats and it loads it right, but the model I am trying to load is quite simple, is there any specific .onj settings that you have to respect when you export from rhino 4?

you should export to triangles, and export normals and use a Y+ coordinate system.

It is not working, I made a test this morning, rendered a cup with various mesh settings, if the polygons are too many andf the file exceeds 3mb octane freezes up

Guess my graph card's not up to the task.

Thanks anyways

I've had similar problems when importing from blender. I am not too familiar with rhino, but make sure that your normals are all facing outward (sometimes causes problems when importing large blender obj's), you aren't adding lights or cameras to the obj file (again I have had that be a cause in large/complex files), and lastly7 just make sure your obj is poly optimized. Sorry if this is redundant to things you've tried already. Post the obj here and we can try to figure out what is going on with it. Also, post your system/gpu specs if you could.
System 1: EVGA gtx470 1280Mb and MSI gtx470 1280 in Cubix Xpander for Octane, AMD 945, 4Gb Ram
All systems are at stock speeds and settings.

Hi,

your GPU only has 256MB of memory, that really is not much.
Octane probably uses half of it for all the render setup and scenes, and leaves you little room to add a complex scene.

i'd consider upgrading to a newer and better GPU before trying to render anything serious with octane, eg something with more than a few textures and 10000 triangles etc...
