beta update

Hi all,

We're working very hard on finishing the beta,
there's a lot to do, including development of copy-protection,
and administration of licenses.

In order not too upset people,
i'm posting my ETA here which at current speed will be tomorrow.

All registered / licensed customers will receive an email with license information and authorization information tomorrow aswell.
We're trying to build a system that makes all this as quick and simple as possible,
as i don't think people who purchased a copy should be punished, as is the case with a lot of products on the market currently.

Yours,
Radiance

Concerning copy protection, as long as I can freely move my license from PC to PC as I update my hardware, I'll be happy.

Probably not with the first release,
we haven't completely developed the administration backend software.

Currently you have to request a new license activation key whenever you change the PC,
eg when you're installing on different Hardware.

You can, however, install both say windows and linux (or OS X in the future),
and run it on both os'es with the same license key.
As long as the PC is the same.

If we give free access to install it between different PCs then we might aswell drop the whole anti-piracy system. ;)
I'm trying to make the whole process as quick and easy as possible.

Not necessary : I have some softwares (Particle illusion for example) allowing to disable the licence on one PC to enable it on the other one. You can have only one active at a time. When transferring the licence, the software is still installed on the former computer, but only runs in demo mode. You have to type the ID code of the new computer in a window field of the software on the old computer : it both disables the installed licence and creates a new licence key for the new computer.

Vray has nice protection system using usb dongle. Only PC with usb dongle connected to, has permission to use vray. That's very handy because you can take your lic anywhere with you or move it easily betwean PCs.

Dongles are my preferred solution, but it has a cost and requires physical shipping, so it is more complicated for the software editor.

I don't mind activating via the internet every time I buy a new PC, as long as it's a generally hassle-free, automated process. Like a window that asks me if I want to deauthorize the previous installation and activate this one on first run. USB dongles are fine too. And, at least as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't have to work right now either. It will be at least 3 months before I upgrade, probably a bit more.

For safety reasons, my workstation is not connected to Internet. Usually, my software activations have been done by e-mail (on my weak internet pc), filing a form with my workstation ID.
