Hi Marcus,

Is the black half lower part of the new daylight system a normal behaviour ?

As I wrote above, it gives nice colors, but requires some tweakings to hide the horizon line.

Yes, it's the normal behaviour. I think a solution shouldn't be too hard, but I have to talk to the other devs first.

Other daylight system have a gradient with a horizon slider, that you can adjust the altitude.. Maybe you can do something similar in Octane?

I seem to have the problem that smoothing has a problem in V1.1 compared to V 1.0. I have tried to play round with the setting in the option dialog and under preferences. The first two are from a loaded file from version 1.0.

Upper two pictures have a mixed material of car paint and leather

In the lowest picture I then tried to import the same blender basic UV sphere This is the basic texture as imported.

Activating, deactivating smoothgroups, normals and angles don't seem to do anything in V 1.1

GTX 470 1.2 GB
I7
8GB
Win 7 64
Octane 64

I run an onboard Intel (r) HD Graphics on a second monitor via BIOS switch.

Octane runs always on the main GTX screen.

in my opinion, the best sky system is the one of the test version 1.03, faded horizon and correct illumination before sunrise and after sunset in comparison with real sun, at least at my longitude / latitude :)

Can anyone tell me, how the new "Index" property of material works? I just downloaded 1.10 and for a while, i was completely at loss, wky i cant set up chrome material, it just keep looking diffuse, no reflection whatsoever. Then i finally took notice of that "index" and putting it from the default 1.3 to 1.0 solved the problem. I still do not know though, what exatly it is and how to use it properly...i honestly tried to browse the forums to find out, when it was added to Octane, whether there is some explanation/tutorial, but no luck so far... until today i was still using the 1.0 RC2 version....

My apology, if its explained in the manual, have not checked that one yet.

EDIT: Just found out about all the other new features and the upcoming ones as well, so wow! Thank you! Superb stuff!

Love you guys!! You're awesome. I would love to see an underwater atmospherics environment node sometime in the near future. Also, how about some cool, bad ass, Octane t-shirts so we can help represent!!!

You know, Octane comes with a manual ;) Help -> Open Manual -> go to page 80. Happy reading.

Cheers,
Marcus
