MLT working - 9000 series or higher only Tweet

Hi all,

We have decided to release version 2.1 asap (sometime early next week),
which will have a lot of bugfixes (nearly every reported issue),
and will have much improvements on non-windows platforms.

We had to choose between adding multi-gpu support or MLT,
both of which are in development.

We have decided to focus/finish the multi-gpu support instead of MLT, and release 2.1 with it.
Then, we work on another update soon to be released after it, containing MLT.

I understand some users would rather see the MLT kernel finished in 2.1 instead of the multi-gpu support,
but from a development point of view it's better for us to first finish the multi-gpu support,
which is something that will affect the MLT kernel a lot, so it's better to do that first, to avoid having to change it afterwards,
and also because of the GPU-X product which will be coming together with the 2.1 beta, which is pretty useless without a multi-gpu octane render.

The update containing the MLT kernel will be our sole priority after 2.1 is out of the door, so it will be released very soon afterwards, eg days, not weeks.

Although I have not the luck to have multiple gpu, I understand that priorizes its support, and if I remember correctly, is said to be on the beta 2.1 before the MLT.

So it is time time for me to order my two gtx 285... for my mac pro (under Win xp 64)

Wouldn't it be better to just order a 295? Since it has 2 GPU and you don't need to waste 1 extra slot of PCI-e 16 slot.

Because of the EFI and not classic BIOS, Mac Pro need dedicaced Nvidia Cards manufactured by EVGA.
Right now, there are only two one that are really usable for Octane: 8800 GT & GTX 285.

Oh god that sucks hard! Well I feel sorry for you. But hey, I'm stuck with a motherboard that can't let me put a 2nd giant card on there because I got no room for cooling. You are still in better shape than I do.

Hahaha, looks like we are on the same boat, I'll think about that solution when I get a new job and a big raise first. hahaha. I'm curious about that GPU-X unit that's "coming soon" on top of Octane page. Is it the GPU-Xpander from Cubix? But somehow it looks a bit different. How much would that thing cost? Here what I don't understand. a GPU-Xpander cost $1300 and a GTX480 cost $500. Why is that the 1st place winner gets a lower end of the deal?
