Just curious if anyone can a question I have. Of course you need a high resolution map for a planet if you want a high res render but I am confused why the memory treats the resolution size significantly different. Say you had a 4k map loaded into octane for a planet and it took 50 mb, if you had a 2x bigger map - 8k map should the memory read 100 mb or so. I have tested the bigger sizes usually 2x bigger and
on some occasions it triples the amount of memory needed.

Are you talking about 4k/8k being only the horizontal resolution? In that case, the 8k will be 4 times the size (double horizontal, double vertical).
