Hi friends,

some things I found out & like to share when wondering about translucency on single sided leaves.

-Instead of using a Diffuse + greenish RGB Spectrum for transmission, you can also create something similiar looking by creating a Specular material:
Set its reflectance to "0", its index (refraction) to "1" and increase its roughness value.
Now plug your leaf texture to the transmission port, done.

This also looks good when used in a 50/50 mix with your old diffuse material.
even better: Use Photoshop to create some additional textures: bump, transmission, opacity.
Will boost realism a lot, even on low-res leaf geometry.

All test renders were lit by a huge emitter with a strength of 23.000 and no extra environment light.
pathtracing.

Wow complex shader tree setup. Must take a lot of resources to compute. But the result is very good. WOuld like to see a render with a backlight sun on a tree.

this looks very, very nice! thanks for sharing your ideas.
ps: i'm also keen about the rendertimes for the images you posted...
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

Thanks guys.

@radiant: I´m sorry, I can´t provide the ocs & obj as this is the leaf is a commercial model from evermotion.
@t_3: rendertimes laid between 20 and 60 mins for a 2K resolution, pathtracing with a raydepth of 64.

Oh, could an admin move this thread to the resources forum?
