TERRAZZO MATERIAL PLEASE HELP :)

Hi there i am fairly new to octane and the octane forums (please let me know if i have posted this in the wrong spot) and i am after some advice for a material.

I am trying to make a material that resembles terrazzo that i can scale and modify with different image textures.

The octane noise with a xyz uvw projection gives a great effect but is there a way to add image textures to each section that this generates? See example on the right.

I have tried to do this using a composite material with different image textures and masking out a seamless patterns in the composite layers. Although this got the right look the mapping did not work as it was not wrapping around objects or seamless. see example on the left.

Any feedback or direction would be greatly appreciated as i have hit a wall and would love some help.

See working files here if you need them

thanks

Hi and welcome :)

This is not the correct section, next time, please post in the c4doctane section instead:
viewforum.php?f=30

If you are mot allowed to post there, please write to [email protected], sharing your Otoy username.

About the specific question, please share a screenshot of the node structure of the material.
A material like this should be completely procedural, without image textures, to avoid seems and issues with projection.

Please note that XYZ-UVW corresponds to Flat/Planar mapping in c4d, so it is normal that it does not work in all directions.
You should try with Box, or Triplanar, to avoid projections issues.

HI Bepe Thank you for the response :)

I will be sure to post this in another area next time.

I have tried using different projections but doesn't seem to work.

How would i go about doing a procedural noise generation with four different textures?

I can make a simple noise with chips to generate the terrazzo effect but how would i apply a unique texture to each segment?

I have attached a node screenshot for the composite material with image textures using the seamless pattern to mask and then image texture to apply a unique texture.. But i would love to make it procedural with a noise chips generator that splits into 4 different materials.

Any advise would be amazing.

Thanks
Keenan

Hi,
if I have understood correctly what you want to do, you need to use several Mix texture nodes, using different versions of the Noise texture in the Amount to define which part will be colored by the ImageTexture nodes.

Then you should need to compose only two materials, the black part, and the tiles part.

Hi Beppe

Thats correct, however if you do it this way the noise chips texture over laps each other rather than having an offset around each chip like the example?

Is there a way to apply a random colour or something to these chips?

Thanks.

hi keenanl,

a few days ago i gave it a try, maybe its for you? you can basically modify the setup to have many more rocks / colours

Hi Keenan,
please have a look at this other simple setup made with a Cell Voronoi piped in an Octane Gradient to give to the tiles a different color, and a Voronoi 3 for generating the black border:

Sorry for the delay

Wow thank you so much Beppe

I didn't even think of using c4d noise.

From that I have achieved a good result using the advance gradient, see below.

Thanks again you're a wizard :)
