Network rendering challenges with C4D R19 and Octane Render

Hi All,

My challenge is when I start rendering in Picture Viewer at the start of each frame I see 100% GPU usage across all of the machines for the first 25% of each frame. After that, there is a severe drop off to 0% GPU usage. This happens on every frame, causing an 8 minute render time per frame on roughly 8000x8000 resolution.

I am running a 9 computer setup 1 master and 8 slaves with Cinema 4D R19.068 and Octane 4.04 plugin. On my slaves each has a standalone version of 4.04. All of these are on a 1 month subscription and Cinema 4D is on a 3 month subscription. All of the ip addresses of the computer show up in network render both in render settings and in Octane dialogue settings and I am able to bind all of the computers.

I am running GPUz in the background of all the computers to monitor the usage. All but one of the computers have gtx 1080 and one has a gtx 1070. All of the slave Daemons are running fine in on the slave computers and they connect to the master computer. Everything has Ethernet running to a single switch with internet access. Windows Firewall has been turned off and the OTOY folder has been whitelisted on every computer for antivirus.

Has anyone seen this issue before? Is there a setting that I am missing to access the GPUs during the whole render? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

Have you tried to disable the Minimize Network Traffic option in the Kernel settings?

Hi Beppe,

I disabled the minimize net traffic. Image attached and I am still getting the same performance. One of my slaves is running at about 22% GPU after the first 30% of rendering each frame.

Any other thoughts?

Specs are the exact same on both the master and the slave machines. I've paired it down to 6 total machines. All Alienware Aurora R7 Desktops. With the above listed specs. All have GTX 1080 GPUs and one of the slaves has 2 GTX 1080 GPUs.

At 55% rendering or 77 cspp / 128 maxspp, the GPU usage drops to 0% on all but 1 Slave that runs at 4% GPU usage.

I have Disabled C4D Shaders, I have Disabled denoising, and I have selected use all GPUs.

I am up for trying anything!

Thanks,

Matt

Hi,
what about Control Panel/Power options?
Maybe the Slaves are in Power safe mode
Also disable the screensaver.
