vdb files - where can I find them ?

Hello,

I am currently working on a night scene which involves a lot of artificial light and also fire.
I started with the vdb file provided here:

http://www.openvdb.org/download/

http://www.openvdb.org/download/models/fire.vdb.zip

I opened it in standalone and applied a diffuse material with scattering to it, and fiddled with the values until it looked "right" . I saved it together with a mesh plane at its base and imported it into Rhino...

It worked great (apart from a scaling issue when I imported it into Rhino... ) but now I am trying to find more vdb stuff but I do not find anything... I would be OK to pay for it !

Any help is very welcome and appreciated

best

Andreas

Hi Andreas,
with Blender, you can generate your own vdb simulation.
Since it is free, you would be able to create your volume, and import it in Standalone and Rhino plugin.
Look at this document:
Rendering Your First Smoke Volume
Also Lightwave and Houdini can generate vdb simulations internally without external plugins.

Hello beppe,

thank you for your answer and the provided link, I will give it a try for sure ...
The problem is that I usually do not have time to do such an effort for creating e.g. flames (...since I do not know blender at all...) so I was hoping that there might be already "ready to use" items to buy ...
E.G:. in turbosquid there are a lot of flames but none of them are in the vdb format :-(
