Another fun thing to use this for is to create environment maps.

Say you have a car or something and want some nice highlights on it.

Using the light rig add plain circular or rectangular lights an pose them for some nice highlights .
Then add a new render target and connect it directly to the light rig.
Set camera to panoramic (should default as spherical).
Set environment texture to black.
In case you have some bright and some less bright panels set up, then adjust the imager exposure value to you liking.
Render the environment and save it to disk.

Now you have you own custom made environment map that you can use as light source in renders.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit 32Gb RAM. Intel Core i7-5820K [email protected] GHZ. Display uses a Gigabyte GTX 460 1Gb VRAM. Octane uses an EVGA GTX 970 4Gb VRAM.
