apologies for anyone who knows how to do this, but for those that don't....

please read on:

I've noticed in the past that there has been a request or two for applying decals on top of textures.

I've had a bit of time on my hands .So i though i'd look into this.

Please check out and play with the attached stacking texture file .orbx

This is using the newly introduced mix texture node.

I'm still using 1.55 standalone so the file is based on this.I assume that it will work on V2.0 and the plugins, but you'll have to test it.

once you've opened the file , try moving the tag and Mr Pettys Poster around the wall using the two sets of coordinate nodes.

Hope this helps someone.

See also the Screen shot for reference.

layering note

The further down the tree towards to obj , the higher the Z stacking order of the decal.

regards

jaba :)

Do you mind posting this material to the LiveDB so we can all use it.

Err I could , but it's more of a demonstration procedure that you would use , rather than an actual material. That's why i uploaded the .orbx file for people to study rather than posting a material.

Not sure that a Tom Petty Poster would be used by a lot of people in their Projects to be perfectly Honest.

......or maybe I'm wrong. ;)

You could replace the Tom Petty poster with a picture that says place decal here and you could also replace the wall with another that says place base image here.
This would then produce a generic enough material that users could substitute their images form both base and decal. thanks for all your hard work.

One thing that was missing from the last post.

How to put a Diffused decal on top of a glossy material.Or even on one of the existing online Materials.

Well I've had a play and come up with this. Please see screen shot below.

This uses a download material and places the sign on it.
