I've been retouching for more than 20 years and I can tell everyone that photographers NEED retouchers.
I've been making CGI images for about 8 years and I can tell everyone that CGI artists NEED retouchers.
A great image retouched, only happens when a good image is supplied.
The few photographer friends I have I always joke with them and say "Your days are numbered". We all laugh and drink beer and forget it, but it's true. They are being portioned off into a niche areas that CGI can't touch without huge effort.

Just my 2 cents, no flame wars please :)
