Hello all,

I use the latest Octane Render Demo (beta 22) and it crashes every time i import WaveFront OBJ scene. It's just a simple scene with a couple of primitives (cubes, spheres etc.). I triangulated them all, no luck. I export my test scene from Cinema 4D 11.5

Here is the screenshot of my error message on crash:

I have the latest nVidia Display and CUDA drivers installed.

Hi,

Can you post the OBJ file zipped here ?
You probably used the wrong export settings...

There are no OBJ export settings in Cinema 4D, except "Scale". I set it's value to 1 (set by default) and thats it.
It's just a simple scene: one plane, one sphere, one cube and one platonic. No modifiers or NURBS. No cameras. No lights. No materials.
Do you still need me to upload that scene file?

BTW, why not to make a standalone exporter (or maybe a plug-in for different 3D applications), which will be 100% compatible with Octane? That would be reeeeally awesome!

Hi,

You need to use the riptide exporter. There is a video tutorilal below on our videos page about it.
There are also a few posts with correct settings for riptide, check the resources forum, on top 'OBJ export settings' post.

Also, We have a plugin for c4d that's a one click solution, with camera export etc, currently available to customers, we'll be including them in the demo versions in the near future.

Hi, that's quite an unhelpfull response...
Everyone implements OBJ in his fashion and you need to configure the riptide exporter in a specific way to make it produce OBJ files which are usefull by octane.
Check the resources forum for the 'OBJ export settings' thread for screenshots and information about it.
It will work as many have made nice renderings with it.

Licensed customers have access to a plugin, which we don't give to demo users yet as we need to document them first otherwise we'll be flooded with questions from people using the scripts.
So they will be packaged with the demo versions soon.

No offence, but the reply above isn't really helpful as well. I did download the Riptide plug-in. I did see the Riptide Pro settings screenshot. I did apply those settings. But Octane still crashes. I'm not a stupid user, beleive me. And i'm not going to buy Riptide Pro, because at least noone knows the reason of the issue. Agree?
