Hi,

You replied 'tried that, no luck, other suggestions.'
That's not really a reply we can help you with.
it's like saying 'my car won't start, what's wrong?'

A lot of users have made a lot of really nice renders using the riptide plugins,
so if you have an issue we need details, screenshots, your OS type, specifications, versions, zipped OBJ+MTL files etc..., eg enough to tell you what's wrong and how to correct it.

Well, here is my description:

1. I installed the latest drivers from nVidia website for my both systems - GeForce GTS 250 and GeForce 8600M GT.
2. Then i installed the following CUDA drivers.

3. I created my scene in 3ds Max 2010 and exported it using the following settings:
Image

4. I open the exported .obj in Octane and get the error message from my previous posts on both systems.

It seems that i do something wrong, but i can't figure out what exactly. I've been to FAQ section and asked Google. No luck.

Will this description help?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Alexander

Hi,

Try installing the 197.55 WHQL driver (you can find it by googling for it),
also, change the settings from 'quads' to triangles.

Also make sure you don't have any special characters (non-ascii / latin) in your filenames or paths.
If the problem persists,
please zip up a small test scene that you exported and we'll have a look at what it could be.

The 197.55 WHQL driver is neither GeForce GTS250, nor GeForce 8600M GT compatible. This version of driver is for 4XX series.
I attached my exported scene to the post above. But here is one with the Triangles.

Hope it will help.

Thanks!

BTW, i took a copy of RandomControl Arion Render from my friend to test it. It's also based on CUDA. However it refused even to start, saying that "cudart32_30_14.dll is missing"

I think that the issue is common for both application, but have no clue what exactly.

Well, i've fixed the issue with Arion by just copying the cudart32_30_14.dll file from my friend's computer. Now it works just fine!
Octane still doesn't.

1. I installed the latest drivers from nVidia website for my both systems - GeForce GTS 250 and GeForce 8600M GT.
2. Then i installed the following CUDA drivers xxxx.

If you install the nvidia video driver you dont need anything else, cuda is included.
No second step is required.
Also note that the very latest drivers are cuda 3.1 compatible and might not be fully compatible with Octane at this time.
Uninstall what you have, use a cleaner to remove any stray bits that may be left, and install only 197.45 for the 250.

cleaner --> http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

driver --> http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_197.45_whql.html

Do the same for the notebook but use only 197.16

driver --> http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winxp_197.16_whql.html

Thank a lot, pixelrush!

However i got no luck with that.

I've cleaned the drivers from my laptop. I installed 197.16 WHQL drivers only. The issue still persists.

I will try these steps on another computer, but i think it will not help either. Hope i'm wrong.

ok well I've downloaded your second 12345.obj and it loads fine here.
It is about 100x bigger than real life though (as opened in Blender) and I had to rotate and zoom the view in Octane to find it initially.
Instead try setting the File>OBJ mesh import preferences>Scale to cm to metres first and give the viewport a wiggle sideways after you have imported it - for some reason it wasnt immediately visible in the white background otherwise. It will be black having no material. See attach pic of your scene with red glossy applied.
BTW you load your .obj by right clicking in the Graph Editor area and choosing Add>objects>mesh.

Your drivers should be working fine since you cleaned and reinstalled.
If not can you describe the specific issue/warning please.
Does Octane actually open ok now?
You are using the latest demo version of Octane?

also,

it might be best if you download the demo suite, from our downloads page,
unzip it and open the OCS file with File -> Open in Octane of for example the chessset with images or the benchmark scene.

if those don't work you've got a driver/OS/HW issue.
