The GTX 460 768MB has the same shader number as the 1 GB version. That is , 336 for both.

Yup, just less rop's and memory. I'm glad they finally came out with a reasonable card for everyday people. Even a gtx470 is out of range for a lot of people. I'd like to get one to test out. Looks like the best bet is still an asus gtx465 hacked up to a gtx470.

Now the base GTS450 model has to be added. About 130$ with 1GB but of course less CUDA cores. Still a very good card to use as your primary display card while the second one renders full scale. When you´re done using the UI you can add it to the rendering pool.

It´s just half the number of cores, but nothing to sneeze at and with a low power consumption a nice second card to add to your GPU system. There will be at least one manufacturer producing a passive cooled card so if the main card is not busy rendering you have a quiet system to work at.

Nvidia just slash the price for 470 and 460 and preparing for Fermi 5xx.

It would be nice if we have a comparasion between the latest Nvidia gpu's - GTX 4xx & GTX5xx ...

Since the performance on Octane is [almost?] independent from the cpu we have.. I think it will be a good idea if staff and/or costumers post a image showing the performance in Octane from each gpu..
It was easier for future costumers or upgrades for already costumers of Octane to choose a gpu..
Like buy a GTX470 or GTX 560 1gb or GTX560 2gb or a gtx570 1280mb, if a GTX580 is a worth buy vs GTX570, the cost per performance, ....

I know that wikipedia, and google, is my friend.
As a matter of fact i am a follower of hardware tech.. I know the main diferences between the lastest Nvidia [and ATI] GPU's, and from Intel & AMD cpu's/chipset's/etc too..

I was talking in real comparasion on Octane render.
Have a real feedback of performance with each gpu - or...the possible.. with the gpu's from octane staff and costumers..

I know that a GTX570 is faster than a GTX560 but not as fastest as a GTX580. And I know the GTX580 as more shaders and higher clock's in reference design than a GTX570..
But i don't know the diference in performance on Octane render and if the GTX 570 - 340/360€ - is a worth buy when compared with a GTX 560 - 250/270€ ..

Of course it depends also from the work flow, what we expect to produce, available money to invest, etc..
But with a performance comparasion each costumer could decide what is best for him when upgrading a GPU..
