That got me further along, but I am running into another issue. When I start the export script in Max, it insists that I use an existing project and won't allow me to create a new project. Anyhow, since you're not a Max user and the script in this thread appears to be an old version, I'll post my issue to the other thread that you provided the link to.

Currently octane exporters are only available to licensed customers during our beta phase,
