Here are some picture to illustrate my first steps discoverind Octane: these renders are somewhere 'basics' in comparaison with the other one i saw here but il shows the ways i'am on.
I will progress, i hope ( discovering octane since 5 days...):
Just, il want to transmitt suggestions about new features of octane ( hierarchical order: )
REAL MOTION BLUR ( or vector but of course 'real MB'would be coherent with the general extrem quality of octane...)
DISPLACEMENT MAPPING ( like micro disp. of mental ray...)

GLARE process on surfaces
GLOW process on surfaces
VOLUMETRIC LIGHTNING ( possibility to create & param. insisde Octane volumetrics light, animatable ? )
animatable controls of camera ( we can contral with maya the DOF quantity nut is it possible to control the BLUR-RANGE DISTANCE -> i did'nt find how)
more procedural textures
I don't ask for particle or fur/air/fluid conversion, i know it's impossible to preserve the compatibility with 3D softs.
But I HOPE OCTANE WILL BECOME AN ANIM RENDERER AS GOOD AS STILL RENDERER
