You will not know which image is with background image and which is rendered in octane. Matej can you point that renders please?? becouse I cant. ( its not offensive or ironic )

I think... You just have to trust everyone that they will write what they did.

So, i'm done. It's is great you prolongued the contest, so...
Main Idea - 10Mtriangles of true water,drops and splashes and foam of waterfall (raytrace depth should be 10 at least) in the cave with few holes, so lightning conditions are not good, so CPU renders will work on each frame for a month
for a while only two camera positions

You cannot composite in a background image, this was one of the rules indeed and we cannot change them during the competition, as Octane now provides a way to render with alpha channel, we will see for the next compet.

You can mix two raw images rendered with Octane if it has a sense, I mean don't render a background (see previous answer) you'll then composite with your scene ;o). For example if you have a big tree and indeed you don't have enough memory to render it with your other scene objects, I can accept you'll mix it later on after after rendering it separately.

So all the archvises with backplates are disqualified??

@enrico, thanks for the clarifications. I'm not yet sure I'll need to render the scene separately (part of a exterior house environment, which is not the main object, but it's not a background, also) - it was just an idea for optimisation (system ram limits on voxelisation).

ok so I get it now...

I spent much time to create and place acurately my background skies on half transparent planes inside Blender, to render them in Octane like any other object, to avoid any compositing. Background can be added as HDRI or LDRI or as object inside the 3D application and rendered within Octane. Any other method requiring to a third software to add the background, even if this background has been done with Octane, IS compositing.

Compositing is the easy way because it is easy to move or change the background afterward, but it is not allowed in the rules.

@Yoyoz : My airplane IS NOT as Stampe ! It is very similar in the shape, but if you look at the signature on the image with the airplane alone, you will see that it is a De Havilland DH-82 "Tiger Moth". It is a british airplane constructed and used for training the pilots of the Royal Air Force before and during the second world war !

Some of them had anti-spin boards on the tail, but most have been removed on the airplanes that are still in used, because they were heavy and not very efficient. The original model had no tail wheel, but as the tail is heavy, most owners added one to their machine.

Of course, I modelled it myself ! I always do everything from scratch, and all my textures are made by hand or from photos taken by myself. I have purchased the Arroway texture pack, but I keep it only in case I would have to do a paid work for archviz project. I hate using third party materials, and I couldn't show on my website something including even a small part made not by me ! That's in my nature !

I have spent so much time studying this airplane that I could almost buid a real one !

what if i puted image (skys) on plane and rendered all in octane its that against rules??

very long time i didnt use ps to put skys or trees in background
all is puted on plane as material and rendered with xy render engines

Sorry Roubal, since I've relocated in Belgium I see Stampes everywhere
