the thing is that the contest WAS already postponed so we could play with 2.4, cause it got out a few days later than what they thought, so I think is fair that if we (windows users) got extra time to use 2.4(2.42) so should linux users. I know that way there will be more entries, and I know that each new post I'm far far away from that beloved awesome jacket, but I rather prefer to be fair for all of us, and besides the point of this contest is to show what we can do, so the more there is the better.
Just my 2 cents.

I just hope that a build will be available before the 7th of feb :)

so for rerendering You need 2 weeks??? thats just weird. The 2.4 v is not that different like when it was with demo competition ( when they added a bumpmap ).... THIS WAS THE DIFFERENCE.

Jaberwocky wrote:I have had an idea for an Entry.I have only one problem with resolving the idea.

I am using Octane for all the work with one exception.

Because of the various extreme camera positions used in Octane to create this scene, I have had to render up the 4 elements as seperate .png files using the alpha channel enabled in octane and then put the 4 layers into photoshop to get the scene out.No further work is done in Photoshop though.Just putting the 4 layers together.

All of the models and maps are also mine with the exception of a background map that has been altered within Octane and one other map for one of the models.

Is this Ok?

If not I understand and will just put it on the artwork page when i am finished instead.

I think not, otherwise it would be composing competition. Just tell me if Im wrong, but if we can do this thats just another rule we are adding thru the competition, which I dont like

No. You need some days to install the new drivers, test if everything is ok, adapt your scenes for the new features (alpha shadows) and render. 2 weeks, 2 days, it doesn't matter - all the platforms should get the same opportunity and tools, I thought this was obvious...

If the difference between version is minimal, than you have nothing to fear, anyway.

I don't see a point that someone is dissapointed because the competition is extended by one week. How can someone be dissapointed because of that??
Imagine, if you are able to, the linux version would be out for a couple of weeks and the mac or win version would be late. How would you feel about an 1 week extention in that case?
I think it's just fair.
Thank you for this decision Refractive!

Imagine that everyone is estimating their times which they can spend on the work. MORE TIME = BETTER QUALITY. thats why I am dissapointed. If I knew I would have one more week , I would do better image. Thats why. You dont have to be genius to know that.

Now imagine this.

For this one week , You are making something that You know You will finish in a week. But then You are told that competition is extended for another one. and You ended with a work that need more than week to improve , but if You would know that there are 2 weeks from the begining, You would do 2 times better image. Then You would see a point.

I know im not very nice now. But those who are made renders ON TIME. Should already be a winners. Think about them please.

Abstrax mentioned a week ago in the 2.42 testing thread, that if they won't be able to make the Linux build, the competition will be extended. It's also totally logical, because it was already extended with the intention to let everybody use the new version.
